Don’t Make This Common Highlight Video Mistake

Video length can make or break your first impression with a coach. Get the timing right to stay in the game.

Keep your videos short until they know you

A frequent oversight in college recruiting highlight videos is failing to adjust the video length based on the level of prior communication with the coach.

Many families compile their athlete’s best clips into a highlight video and send it to coaches without considering this. However, coaches’ receptiveness to video length varies depending on their familiarity with your athlete. If a coach is new to your athlete, they’re unlikely to watch a five-minute video.

Conversely, a coach who already knows your athlete’s skills and wants to see more is more inclined to view a longer video.

The key rule is simple: the fewer contacts you’ve had with the college coach, the shorter your video should be.
