🏆 Recruiting Roadmap: up your game with these 5 recruiting tips

Here's 5 recruiting tips to help you get scouted.

Hey recruits,

Want to increase your chances of getting a response from college coaches?

Here’s 5 tips to improve your email sending strategy:

1. Personalization Isn’t That Important

Coaches don’t need a hyper-personalized opening line. The only personalization that truly matters? Address them by name (e.g., “Hi Coach Smith,”) and mention the school name somewhere in your email. Skip the fluff—focus on what matters.

2. Follow Up or Don’t Bother Sending

Most responses come from follow-ups, not the first email. Some athletes have doubled, even 7x’ed, their response rates by consistently following up. Don’t be afraid of “annoying” coaches—persistence pays off.

3. Remove Stats—Let Your Video Do the Talking

Unless your stats are exceptional, they could work against you. Coaches may dismiss your email before watching your video. Video is subjective and offers a better chance to make an impression. Let them discover your stats later.

4. Want More Responses? Contact More Schools

The athletes who got 80+ responses reached out to 300+ schools. If you’re only sending 20-30 emails, you’re likely leaving opportunities on the table. Expand your reach.

5. Avoid Information Overload

Too many parents overstuff emails with stats, links, social media, transcripts, and more. Coaches don’t need everything upfront. Keep it simple—introduce yourself, provide a strong highlight video, and make it easy for them to respond.

We recommend our partners, CCN Scout for this step. They maintain a database of every college coach’s email address and let you email them all through their app. Try for free and get $25 off your first month with code “Recruit25”.

Next week you’re going to use those email addresses. I’m going to walk you through a system to quickly write 50 personalized emails to get each coach’s attention.

Until next week and best of luck!
